Made Popular Mar 27 2008
On 3 March 2008, in a popular TV show, Sanal Edamaruku, the president of Rationalist International, challenged India’s most “powerful” tantrik (black magician) to demonstrate his powers on him. That was the beginning of an unprecedented...

For how long should these cheats be allowed to fool superstitious people with their follies? The godmen, tantrics and astrologers are making a fortune by fooling people. People like Sanal Edmaruku and members of the rationalist associations should be applauded for their efforts in exposing the truth that no human being can work outside the natural laws.

Black magic exists, the people who do black magic have explored the unexplored recesses of human mind and achieved daunting feats in this art, there is no denying that. There is wealth of research done on this subject. But those who do it...are reclusive and devoted to their art. The common ’black magic doctors’ that the common man comes across are bluffs.

Black magic is said to be so powerful that a person excelled in the feild in can do wonders. If black magic exists then why don’t we witness something strange happening around us. If it is so powerful then why can’t the experts help people using it and if black magic is evil then wy can’t we see people using it for their own benifit?

can you answer that Nareen? I guess you can’t, and even if you do then your argument will be that those who are expert don’t show their skills to public and blah blah.

People like Sanal Edmaruku are trying to make a difference by showing the world how these thugs have been fooling people for ages and you are here saying that there are ppl who know black magic.

I ask , where are they?> waiting for the dooms day to come and rule over Earth? :P

It is really surprising that even after science has answered so many questions, people wish to believe in black magic and god. Maybe because they always want to be assured that somebody is going to look after them. But the problem is not in believing something, whether it exists or not exist, but fooling others, especially gullible uneducated common man.

I hate India TV news channel, but for this story I am really grateful for them.

Arjun , I’d love to correct you there. Indian TV channels have been doing a really good job when it comes to stupid religious beliefs.

This alone is not a case of Indian TV channel highlighting the issue, but htere are many.

I too hate Indian Medai for showing crap on news channels, but I do appritiate them for doing some good work too.

And no science can prove if god exiosts or not, thus you are beliving in god’s existence or else you are beliving in god’s non-existence.

ANother thing is that every person sees God in a different way, so it is almost impossible to argue if god exists or not. Because to many (like me) god is source of life and death, more like a source of energy.

but, I’ do agree with you on the fact that it’s not about what you believe or what you believe, but it’s more about getting fooled about your beliefs. Something that ppl like Sanal are trying there best to change, and hopefully they’ll succeed

I totally agree with Nishant ..@Noreen, if is exists then why didn’t Sanal Edamaruku die on TV. You claim the others to be bluffs but the man who vowed to kill Sanal with his enchantments is one of the most famous tantriks in this country. Type in his name into google and check for yourself.

It is the uneducated lot which can get influenced by such crap but whose rationale is backed up with education should not believe in this and should instead help the society to get rid of such disbeliefs.

It’s not just about uneducated people, but there are lots of educated ones falling for such traps.

Nishant,

I did not say illiterate but uneducated.

A literate can be uneducated and educated can be illiterate.

@ Nishant ... Everybody be it educated or uneducated falls for it...the point is, whoever’s rationale is backed up by education should make it a point to spread general awareness against such practices.

I mentioned that they should not follow such useless concepts ... i never said that they do not follow...Cheers Mate !!

I agree to you Arjun (finally, on something :P) and that’s what I wanted to state when i said that even educated people fall for it.

It’s lack of awareness that causes these things and not education, thats where people like Sanal come into play.

and my message was for Atul, for he said ’It is the uneducated lot which can get influenced by such crap’. But guess what, in very next line he said what I wanted :P

People, you got me mixed up. When I referred to people who study ’black magic’ I didnt mean some famous tantric or those we find squatting by the streets touting their knowledge. I meant people like leathbridge, colin wilson, like W.B. yeats (yes, the poet) People are so confused about ’magic’. It is a science as I said before. The science of the powers of mind and what it can do. When ppl use it to do harm it turns into ”black magic” which I believe can be done to a certain extent but to kill someone, I really dont know.
There is a lot of research out there that u people can read about. As I said there is much superstitions and confusions where ’magic’ as a science is concerned.

Hey people I love Kal Kapal Mahakaal. It was a great series running on Zee news (wonder if it is still going around). It showed the so called Black Magicians practicing their mumbo-jumbo in the cremation grounds. I saw and thought what drove these superstitious fools into such an abominable life. BLACK MAGIC is crap.

Indian news channels present an interesting dilemma. One moment they are looking for any and every sign of the supernatural and moments later they debunk everything that ain’t rational.

There’s some serious mystical power working behind their script writing I tell you.

Foreign hand maybe?

and yea i remember kal kapal maha kal. but i guess they failed to convey the message that well, at times one wld end up believing in black magic rather than getting the ironic side of the show. I think they got bit too sarcastic on that one, though their intentions were good.
